Osseous bodies (2023)

The works of Brák scatter across the floor, resembling carcasses of long dead species of the future, perhaps genetic engineering gone awry, winking at the moment when what we create becomes the thing that kills us. Made from scrap wood and paper, these forms conjure a loop in time, both future and past, both dead and showing the soft blush of life. She was inspired by the phenomena of “Whalefall” when a whale dies and sinks slowly to the bottom of the ocean, becoming a host for a diversity of other lifeforms, some of which exist in no other place on earth. If only we as humans can find a way to leave as gracefully.
